After his studies in mechanical engineering, he has gained over twenty five years experience in environmental business, specifically in Air Pollution Control systems and innovative solutions for air/gas treatment for industrial and marine applications. 

In 1989 he started his professional career at the FIAT Research Centre and he has held a number of roles as technical director in several important industries in the environmental sector, as well as in Ecospray since 2005. He is also the holder of several patents, both individually and in partnership with other international partners.

 

Antonis Asimakopoulos, Marine Service Manager, ABB 

A.AsimakopoulosAntonis Asimakopoulos, Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering, joined ABB S.A. in 2004 as project, commissioning engineer in automation systems for some of the biggest land based industries in Greece.

Some years later, he changed position to sales engineer for Marine Industry.

Today he is Marine Service Manager responsible for ABB's Marine Electrical, Software Portfolio.

He holds a Chemical Engineering degree from the National Technical University, Athens and a PhD from the Leeds University, UK.

 

Stavros Daniolos, Technical Manager, Minerva Marine Inc

DaniolosStavros Daniolos studied at Sunderland Poly and Newcastle University, graduating with a M.Sc. in Marine Engineering in 1979. He served his military service as Engineer Petty Officer with the Hellenic Navy. His first employment as Superintendent Engineer was with Canopus Shipping from 1979 until 1984.

In 1985 he joined Ceres Hellenic Shipping Enterprises as Superintendent Engineer and in 1995 was promoted to the position of Technical Manager held till 2000.

In 2001 he moved to Athenian Sea Carriers as Chief Operating Officer, position held till September 2001. In 2001 he joined Minerva Marine Inc as Technical Manager, position held today.

Stavros Daniolos is a member of most major classification societies, Vice President of MARTECMA and secretary of the Greek CIMAC association.

Tor has been in the maritime environment all his professional life holding positions from deck officer onboard deep sea vessels via sales and corporate position in Colfax Corporation in USA to CCO (Chief Commercial Officer) today.

Starting point of the maritime voyage started as officer for the Norwegian owner Bergesen DY onboard LPG tankers. After some years he started in sales & marketing and has held several positions inside Autronica and Allweiler in Norway, Germany, China and USA.

Since 2008 Tor has been head of sales & marketing inside OceanSaver, where general marketing, strategy and development of the sales and marketing department has been key focus in order to be able to take their market shares when the BWT market is opening.

Tom EvensenTom H Evensen is a former Officer in the Royal Norwegian Coastguard.

Having studied in Norway, Germany and the US he holds a Master of Science in Business and Economics.

He started in Jotun as a Product Manager for the SeaQuantum range, then progressed to Group Category Manager for the Antifouling department and in 2011 he joined the Hull Performance Solutions team as Sales Director.

 

Stavros Hatzigrigoris, Managing Director, Maran Gas Maritime Inc 
 hatzigrigorisStavros Hatzigrigoris is the current Managing Director of Maran Gas Maritime Inc., a position which he has held since 2003. For the years 1992 to 2012 he held the position of Managing Director of Maran Tankers Management Inc. Stavros joined Anangel Shipping Enterprises S.A. in 1981 as a Superintendent Engineer.

He holds a B.Sc. degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from University College London, an M.Sc. degree in Marine Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and has studied Management of Ship Operations in the University of Strathclyde. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineers and has served as one of the SNAME International Vice Presidents. He is a member of the ABS Technical Committee, the Chairman of the DNV-GL Technical Committee and a member of the Greek Technical Committees of LRS, KR and CCS.

She left from her position as a Senior Project Engineer from OSG (GR) Ship Management Ltd, in where she was working since 2006, to join Minerva Marine as Project Team Leader in April 2013. Prior to that and until 2006 she was in Stelmar Tankers (Management) ltd. Until today, she served in different capacities as Dry-docking, Repairs & Project Supervisor and Senior Project Engineer dealing mostly with regulatory compliance, major modifications & conversions and new building projects. Vayia Hatziyianni began her maritime career in 1997 as a consultant where she served until 2000.
  

She has had the following material published: ”Contribution towards Determination of the Optimal Ship Speed, SNAME Symposium 2010” and “Technical issues for selection of ballast water system for an Aframax tanker, Global Industry Alliance for Ballast Water Management meeting, Istanbul 2011”.

 

Vayia Hatziyianni holds a Bachelor degree in Naval Architecture from the Technological Education Institute of Athens, a Postgraduate diploma in Manufacturing & Business Administration from Open University of UK and an Msc degree in the Marine Engineering & Technical Management from the University of Greenwich.

photo.DHDimitrios A. Heliotis, is the COO and Technical Director of Piraeus-based Target Group comprising Target Marine SA and Horizon Tankers Ltd SA, a position he has held since April this year. 

He joined Target in 1999 as fleet manager and newbuilding project manager and between then and becoming group technical director in 2005 he was responsible for projects in South Korea’s Hyundai HI, STX, SPP, Samsung HI, Sungdong, and Japan’s Onomichi and Tsuneishi.

On obtaining a MSc in Air Transport Engineering and Management at Cranfield Institute of Technology (UK) to go with a B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering from the University of Hull, (UK) he worked as an independent consultant and surveyor.

In 1993 he joined Elkco Marine Consultants, before joining marine consulting firm Marinecare Ltd and, from 1996 to joining Target, he was a superintendent engineer at Navitas Compania Maritima SA.

Memberships include: UK Engineering Council, Chartered Engineer; Royal Institute of Naval Architects; Technical Chamber of Greece; Hellenic Technical Committees of LR and of ABS; is a board member of Martecma and a member of Intertanko’s ISTEC.

Recent focus areas being fuel and lube savings and emission reduction.

 Nikolaos KakalisNikolaos Kakalis is the Head of DNV-GL Strategic Research & Innovation in Greece since 2008.

Nikos leads the development and implementation of methods and tools for modelling, simulation, and optimization of integrated / complex ship machinery systems with respect to energy efficiency, emissions, costs, and safety.

 

He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering and an MSc in Process Systems Engineering from Imperial College London, as well as a Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. His work has resulted in over 40 refereed journal and conference proceedings publications.

 

 

John Kokarakis, VP Technology & Business Development Marine & Offshore Division, Bureau Veritas

, a 1979 graduate of National Technical University of Athens, holds PhD (1986) and Master’s degrees in Naval Architecture (1983) and Master’s in Mechanical Engineering (1984) from the University of Michigan. He worked for over ten years as a consultant undertaking technical problems worldwide.  

His specialization was in the area of technical investigation and analysis of marine accidents.

In that capacity he participated in the technical investigation of the Exxon Valdez grounding, capsize of drillship Seacrest, Piper Alpha fire and explosion, Aleutian Enterprise foundering in Alaska as well as many other accidents of less notoriety.

 

The last fourteen years he works in Greece, in the area of classification. He has served at American Bureau of Shipping and Germanischer Lloyd. He worked in plan approval, rule development and implementation of environmental regulations.

He is currently Vice President of Technology and Business Development of Marine Hellenic, Black Sea & Middle East Zone at Bureau Veritas. In his duties Dr. Kokarakis is responsible for the smooth technical operation in the Zone as well as in the harmonic cooperation with the BV offices worldwide to the benefit of the BV clients.

  

 

Maria Kyratsoudi, FOBAS Senior Specialist GEMA, Hellenic Lloyd's SA
 
Maria KyratsoudiMaria Kyratsoudi joined Lloyd’s Register in 2009 and her current role is FOBAS Senior Specialist, Team Leader for Greece, East Mediterranean and Adriatic (GEMA). Maria has the overview of the FOBAS service in GEMA region and provides specialist technical advice on fuel quality and on-board fuel management. Current duties include also providing decision making support to customers with respect to the air emissions compliance solutions (alternative fuels, abatement technology etc)
 

Prior to joining Lloyd’s Register, Maria worked as a plan approval engineer at Germanischer Lloyd.

Since 2009, he has led activities on ballast water treatment technology with direct responsibility on design, research and development of the Wärtsilä AQUARIUS® BWMS range and delivery of market ready products.

He has been an invited speaker and panellist on a number of ballast water technology events in Europe, USA and Asia.
  

Dr Kyriacou is visiting professor at Cranfield University, UK and a member of a number of National (UK) and European committees dealing with maritime technology research, development and innovation.

He has been representative of NK Co, Ltd Japan ohffice, BWMS technical sales representative of LGN carrier projects in the Japanese market, and BWMS technical sales representative of Japanese shipowners.

Now he is the Technical Sales Manager & Specialist of BWMS in NK Co, Ltd head office, responsible for marketing & planning, instructor and operating trainer for ballast water management systems.

  

 

Michael Markogiannis, Manager Plan Approval & Technical Support Centre, RINA Hellas Ltd

MarkogiannisMichael Markogiannis is the Manager of the RINA Hellas Ltd Greece Plan Approval & Technical Support Centre. Graduated as a naval architect, he is deeply involved in the application of rules and regulations.

In 2013-2014, during the RINA chairmanship of IACS, was involved also in the IACS rule-making process by assisting and supporting the RINA IACS team and being the contact point between the IACS Chairman and the Greek Marine Industry.

Jens MoellerJens Moeller joined Shell Marine Products in 1999 as local technical Manager. Eight years later he took over the global role as Marine Product Application Specialist in Shell Global Solutions. During that time he was amongst others responsible for the Shell Alexia S4 field trials.
 

Since Sept 2014 he is heading the team of technical experts, delivering technical support to Shell Marine Products customers in Europe and Africa.  

He started his career as Marine Engineer, working onboard of Diesel Engine and Steam Turbine driven General Cargo, Ro/Ro and Container ships.

Jens is holding a degree in Marine Engineering from the Hamburg University of Applied Science.  

 

Stavros Niotis, Engineer, Piraeus Technology & Business Development, ABS
  
 ABS Stavros NiotisStavros Niotis joined ABS in November 2013 as Engineer, Gas Center, Piraeus Technology & Business Development. His role focuses on all projects related to Gas Carriers and Gas fueled ships.  

Niotis has worked as a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer for more than six years, including work as a Plan Approval Surveyor for Lloyd’s Register in London, where he specialized in LNG membrane tanks. He was involved in the approval of specific ship plans and in the Approval in Principle of innovative LNG membrane tank designs and concepts. Prior to this he worked for Ceres LNG services where he was involved in New Buildings plan approval, Dry Dock repairs and other technical and operational projects for Steam and DFDE LNG Carriers.

 

He has also worked as Junior Researcher in coordination with the School of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (NTUA) on European Research Projects for Dynamic Ship stability (SAFEDOR) and for Ship Designs based on Risk Analysis for Fire spreading and Ship evacuation (FIREPROOF).

 

Niotis graduated from the School of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), and holds a Masters of Engineering (MEng.)

He has been a senior Manager at Seacrest Shipping Co Ltd, a London based Agency part of an International Commercial Shipping Services group. Since 1992, he has been responsible for the international group’s Operations, Technical, S&P and Chartering sectors. 

He is also responsible for strategy on behalf of the clients in managing their funds in shipping investments. He holds an MBA from Imperial College London, a Masters in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from University of Michigan, USA and a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, NJ, USA. He is also a registered ship broker at the Baltic Exchange in London, a member of ICS and SNAME.

He initially joined BCG in Athens in 2010; he has worked in Athens (2010-2012 and 2014-onwards), Copenhagen (2012-2013) and has served shipping clients in the Mediterranean, North Europe and Asia.

 
During his years with BCG, Ioannis has worked with different types of Shipping companies, from large corporate to mid-sized family businesses covering various segments (containers, tankers, feeders). Ioannis has been supporting companies on different types of assignments ranging from growth strategy, sales force effectiveness, cost cutting, operational excellence, bunker optimization, organizational setup, and performance management.

He has developed a deep expertise in fuel efficiency and recently completed a study regarding the use of LNG as a marine fuel. Ioannis has graduated from the Hellenic Air Force Academy in 2002 and earned a PhD from the National Technical University of Athens in 2008. He is fluent in Greek and English."

His academic background includes studies at the PhD level in Mechanical Engineering (Heat Transfer) and lecturing at the University of Sunderland for 4 years. He is a member of the Greek National Committees of the Japanese Classification Society (Class NK) and the Korean Register and a member of the Greek Technical Committees of Class NK, Det Norske Veritas & Germanischer Lloyd (DNV GL) and the Italian Classification Society (RINA). Furthermore, he was elected as a member at the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping (HCS) and as Vice President in the Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association (HSSA).  

George Souravlas, with over 20 years of experience in senior ship management, co-founded Elmira Shipping and Trading SA in 1997 and has held the position of Technical Director until 2009.

George Souravlas has been invited to speak on many occasions at international conferences on various operational aspects of ship management. He also chaired ACI’s ‘4th Optimising Ship Maintenance’ conference that was held in Rotterdam in January 2011.

He is a member of the prestigious ‘Who is Who’ Society, in Greece and recently was also inducted to the International ‘Who’s Who’ Society of Professionals.

In September 2009, he founded, together with Costis Calfoglou, Load Line Marine S A.

Konstantinos Stampedakis has served as an on-site manager on the United Nations Development Program, Oil Spill Cleanup of 3 sites between Jadra and Ras Al Saadiyat in Lebanon, and as an on-site manager for the spill response caused from the cruise vessel Sea Diamond wreck.

In 2008 he joined Ricardo, the engineering company, where he was leading the large engine team.

D Triperinas PicDemosthenes Triperinas is a naval architect and marine engineer, and has worked as a research assistant since 2001 at the Laboratory for Ship and Marine Hydrodynamics (LSMH) of the department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).

A member of Technical Chamber of Greece, prior to the NTUA he worked as a naval architect in a private marine consultancy office.

   

 

Panos Zachariadis, Technical Director, Atlantic Bulk Carriers Management Ltd
    
pzPICPanos Zachariadis is Technical Director of Atlantic Bulk Carriers Management Ltd, a bulk carrier operator, since 1997. From 1984 to 1997 he was Marine Superintendent in the company’s New York office. His shipping experience spans diverse areas including sea service in bulk carriers and oil tankers, dry dock repairs, new building supervision and specifications, ship operations and chartering. He holds a MSE degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan.

He has been attending IMO for many years as a member of the Greek delegation. He was extensively involved with IMO’s Goal Based Standards and the Greek study which reversed the IMO decision to make double hull bulk carriers mandatory. He was also instrumental in developing the new IMO coating standard (PSPC) for all ships’ ballast tanks. Currently he is involved in the new IMO environmental regulations for ships.

He has written numerous technical guides, papers and articles and has been awarded the 2011 Efkranti Shipping Personality award for promoting Greek Shipping internationally. Member of Hellenic Chamber of Shipping and UGS technical committees, BIMCO Marine Committee, ABS European Technical Committee, BOD HELMEPA and MARTECMA.
